| News: OUR
ASSOCIATION PINNAWELA CHARITY HELP „LUCKY SAMA“ HAS A BIG
PLAN
However, since May 2006, due to the ongoing tense political situation in Sri Lanka, it has not been possible to maintain the centre on a regular basis or profitably. The support of our organisation is therefore very necessary. In the future, we will not only manage a large part of the public relations of the centre, but are aiming to provide more equipment, e.g., modern laboratory facilities to attract international studies. We will of course make sure that the existing facilities offer the same high standards required and that the doctors and their assistants are continually trained to use the machines properly. For all this
we welcome your support. March

The building of the health- and research centre in Pinnawela now is ready
and we can transport our second X-ray for human use to Sri Lanka. The
plan for our trip is in middle of May. Next report will be on this page in about June/July October 2003 Some words from Annette Walter-Kilian to all friends of Sama:Dear elephant friends, first I would like to thank you from my heart for all the generous support to my project. The positive reactions after the Televison reports in NDR, BR and ORF made me very happy. You did not anly give the organization enough funds for a continuing support of Sama, but you also gave me the energy to reach my goal. Thanks to all your contributions we can now continue. Our elephant trainer, Dan Koehl, and I visited Sri Lanka in the end of September. We had some very succesful meetings with the officials, and got the "green light" to continue to try to help Sama get a better life. Further information will soon be available on those pages. Unfortunately we lack some minor financing to be able to put this project on its feet. I do not want to interrupt the project because of lack of funds once again, but hope to be able to cover for the expences by January. Once again, thank you for all Support and donations!.
The latest news for the project "Luck Sama" in June 2003: Unfortunately Sama is not very "happy". We made the Trans-tibial Prosthesis (Below Knee Prosthesis) and could confirm that it suits the stump of Samas leg well, but Sama is still not trained enough to wear it. Her confidence for humans has to be improved, so she can learn to use the prothesis at least for shorter periods. The elephant trainer Dan Koehl is availabe for this project, but we still lack the funds.
